Google and discrimination

Google surfs on their image of a nice, lefty, "progressive" bunch, but in reality, like most mega-corps, it is aggressively discriminating among its employees. Furthermore, Google claims its "Google campus" aims at promoting diversity and the such, when they fail at promoting it internally.

Here are resources about Google and discrimination:

Google sees major claims of harassment and discrimination as lawsuits proceed - The Guardian (March 2018)

Two lawsuits by female employees, alleging company underpays women and that ‘bro-culture’ enabled daily harassment, move ahead

"Attorneys in the wage case have alleged that Google “segregates” women into lower-paying positions, promotes women at slower rates and pays them less than men for similar or equal work. Google – which has continued to argue that its own analysis has found no “statistically significant” pay gap – sought to have the class action and claims of “intentional discrimination” dismissed, but a judge sided with the women in a Tuesday ruling. Female Google engineer says she faced “frequent sexual harassment” - Ars Technica - 2018

Woman charges that “Google was fully aware” of sexist behavior but didn’t stop it. A Google engineer says she was a frequent target of regular sexual harassment during her seven years at the company. In a lawsuit filed in March 2018, Loretta Lee (no relation) accused the Mountain View company of having a "bro-culture" that was hostile to women, and of doing too little to address the problem.

Women say they quit Google because of racial discrimination: 'I was invisible' - The Guardian - August 2017

As Google reels from the fallout over a controversial diversity memo, multiple women say they faced regular discrimination and ultimately left

"More women have since come forward with stories of sexism at Google, and now, people of color are sharing accounts of racial discrimination at the corporation, which has a predominantly white and male workforce, much like the rest of Silicon Valley.

Despite Google’s notoriously strict confidentiality policies, which some say are used to intimidate and silence critics, several former and current employees spoke in interviews about the ways in which they believe minorities, particularly women of color, are denied opportunities and equal pay. They described a culture that tolerates racism and sexism, where white male managers frequently support and promote employees who look like themselves."
