"It is a good day for Berlin", Mayor Michael Müller emphasized when he presented the project of a "Google Campus for Entrepreneurs" in Kreuzberg alongside Google's vice-boss in Germany. Since this announcement Google is building its new Campus at the former substation "Umspannwerk" Ohlauer-Str. /Paul-Linke-Ufer – exactly in the area with the highest jumps in rental prices in Berlin. According to the IT Group, the
"Google Campus" should provide developers, founders and investors with a meeting place.
At issue is the promotion of entrepreneurship through education and networking.
According to Google, the goal is to promote the "Berlin start-up ecosystem". The fact
that exactly this praised "start-up ecosystem" is already responsible for displacement
pressure on established Kreuzberg cultural institutions, shows the conflict between the
Kreuzberg "Privatclub" and one of the "Internet billionaires" (BZ) who owns
"Rocket-Internet".
Such a displacement is already completed in another large space in Görlitzer Park.
Until recently, the old Agfa factory in Lohmühlenstraße was still home to small
businesses, cultural institutions and associations. Now the "Factory Görlitzer Park",
the "biggest European club for startups" including a private university for
programmers, has been built. Also at the "Factory", a "Google for Entrepreneurs" has
been involved.
Anyone who wants to see how such developments pushed by tech companies and start-ups
can change an urban area in a very short time must look to San Francisco and the Bay
Area with the Silicon Valley. San Francisco, the former city of American counter
cultures, LGBTQ movement and Chinese immigrants, has become one of the US's most
expensive spots, exacerbated by the entrance of Facebook’s glittering new campus into
the city centre in what is said to be the tallest skyscraper on the West Coast, with
nearly 70 luxury condos on the upper floors for the super-rich.
On May 16th, we want to talk to different players from politics and neighborhood
initiatives in the SO36 about what can be done so that Kreuzberg and Berlin do not have
to go the same way as San Francisco or parts of central London, where poor and ordinary
people have already been forced out of their neighborhoods.

The (digital) restructuring of domination precludes our desire for
freedom and a self-determined life. That's why we want to focus on the
individual, social and emotional impact of everyday use of new digital
technologies (eg smartphones, apps, etc.). How can games-like methods
(gamification) fool you into making everyday life easier and at the same
time let self-thinking, craft and social skills stunt? How important are
the real non-virtual experiences for our lives, for our feelings and our
experiences? How alienated are personal feelings, dreams and experiences

pornography work? As a counter concept a hackerdidactic is presented.
This concept is for digital self-defense. It should not be about an
application of technology, but rather about exposing our personal
behaviors. Our approach begins with our own vulnerability and the

thinking, our feelings and our self-determined life?

gehen, sondern vielmehr um das Herausstellen unserer persönlichen
Verhaltensweisen. Unser Ansatz beginnt mit unser eigenen Verletzlichkeit

The (digital) restructuring of domination precludes our desire for
freedom and a self-determined life. Therefore, in this workshop, we want
to look at the individual, social and emotional implications of the
everyday use of new digital technologies.
Who does not like to play? Playing is fun, playing gives us a break from
everyday life. But is our everyday life a game? Why do we need time off,
why in the digital and not in the real world?
Skills will be acquired in the workshop to recognize repetitive,
addictive, game-like schemes in everyday digital life. Using practical
examples, we will above all analyze hidden game-like offers in the
social networks of Facebook, Google and other apps and their alleged relief.
We'll briefly introduce you to the history of video games and go into
more detail about the human brain or the human being as a cognitive
entity: how does our brain function in learning, how does operant
conditioning (repetition and reinforcing behavior through trial and
error) work? how games generate short joy and therfore dependencies and
thus limited joy and pain associated with it?
One goal is to experiment with ways to more clearly recognize the
increasingly encompassing digital domain in order to better escape or
attack them.
This workshop will be hold in english and translated into german!

Die (digitale) Restrukturierung der Herrschaft steht unserem Verlangen

deshalb in diesem Workshop mit den individuellen, sozialen und
emotionalen Auswirkungen durch den alltäglichen Gebrauch der neuen
digitalen Technologien befassen.
Wer mag nicht spielen? Spielen macht Spaß, spielen gibt uns eine Auszeit
vom Alltag. Jedoch ist unser Alltag ein Spiel? Warum brauchen wir die
Auszeit, warum in der digitalen und nicht in der reellen Welt?
In dem Workshop sollen Skills erworben werden, um wiederholende,
abhängig machende, spieleähnliche Schemata im digitalen Alltag
wiederzuerkennen. Anhand von praktischen Beispielen werden wir vor allem
versteckte spieleähnliche Angebote in den sozialen Netzwerken von
Facebook, Google und anderen Apps und deren angebliche Erleichterungen
analysieren.
Dabei werden wir kurz in die Geschichte der Videospiele einführen und
etwas ausführlicher auf das menschliche Gehirn oder den Mensch als
kognitives Wesen eingehen: wie funktioniert unser Gehirn beim Lernen,
wie einfach funktioniert das operante Konditionieren (Wiederholung und
verstärkendes Verhalten durch Versuch und Irrtum), wie sehr generieren
spieleähnliche Anwendungen kurze Freude und damit Abhängigkeiten und
somit begrenzte Freude und damit verbundene Schmerzen?
Ein Ziel ist es mit Möglichkeiten zu experimentieren, die immer
umgreifendere digitale Herrschaft klarer zu erkennen, um sich besser zu
entziehen oder sie angreifen zu können.

Mittlerweile twittern es die Vögel von den Dächern: Die Tech-Industrie kommt nach Berlin und mit ihr prekärere Jobs, Selbstausbeutung und steigende Mieten. Ein Testballon dafür ist der Google Campus in Kreuzberg. Es soll der siebte in der „Campus Family“ werden, zumindest wenn es nach Googles Mutterkonzern Alphabet und dem Berliner Senat geht. Google selbst bewirbt seinen Campus als Ort der Vernetzung, des Mentorings und als Brutstätte großer Ideen für junge UnternehmerInnen und Start-up-People. Dabei behauptet der Konzern, er selbst würde nur die Räumlichkeiten stellen und den Kaffee aufsetzen – mit den explodierenden Mieten und der täglichen Verdrängung soll das nichts zu tun haben.

Aber warum soll man gegen schlechten Kaffee und ausstehenden Burnout einiger JungunternehmerInnen auf die Straße gehen, während Menschen ihr Zuhause verlieren? Es stimmt: Zahlreiche Initiativen und Zusammenschlüsse organisieren sich bereits entlang eigener Wohnbelange, andere skandalisieren behördliche Willkür oder kritisieren die repressive und marktkonforme Umgestaltung des öffentlichen Raumes. All dies zurecht. Viele von ihnen werden wir auf der „Widersetzen“-Demo am 14.4. in Berlin – der Stadt, in der die Mietpreise seit 2008 um 76 Prozent in die Höhe geschnellt sind – treffen. Wenn also der Kapitalismus uns auf so viele Arten das Leben schwermacht, warum dann gerade „Google Campus & Co“ verhindern?

‘Es ist ein guter Tag für Berlin’, war die Reaktion der regierenden Bürgermeisters Michael Müller auf die Ankündigung zur Eröffnung des Google Campus in Berlin. Der siebte in der Campus Familie soll er werden, doch Google selbst, deren HQ sich in Mitte befindet, möchte dort jenseits des Namens nicht allzu präsent sein, außer durch die Bereitstellung von Kaffee und WiFi. Stattdessen sollen sich dort Start-Ups einmieten, vernetzen und arbeiten, vereint und geteilt in der Hoffnung eines Tages von Google gekauft zu werden.
Generell boomt die Berliner Start-Up Szene. Es lockt ein internationales Team, Aufstiegsmöglichkeiten sowie Beer-Friday und gemeinsames Planking in der Mittagspause, so dass der Arbeitsplatz ‘Start-Up’ für viele als verheißungsvoll erscheint. Doch hinter den riesigen Glasfenstern der Co-Working Spaces wartet oftmals Prekarität und stupide Selbstausbeutung. Permanenter Enthusiasmus für das Team und das Projekt werden erwartet, bei zumeist niedrigen Löhnen, vor allem für Frauen, aber hochtrabenden Titeln. Wer legt sich schon mit dem Chef an, wenn man regelmäßig gemeinsam trinken geht. Die Lage der arbeitenden Klasse in Berlins Start-Ups und wie sie sich zur Wehr setzen kann, wollen wir gemeinsam diskutieren.
Mathilde Ramadier ist Autorin und Übersetzerin und hat sich einige Berlin Start-Ups angetan. Über ihre Erfahrungen hat sie 2017 das Buch ‘Bienvenue dans la nouveau monde’ veröffentlicht.
